Sweater Weather, Sleepless Nights & a Little Goat Named Acorn šŸ‚šŸ

Life on the Farm at Rowandale Soap Co.

There's something magical about fall on the farm. The air turns crisp, the leaves begin to show off their beautiful colors, and the sweaters come out of storage. The goats are growing their fuzzy winter coats, the barn feels a little cozier, and there's that familiar feeling that another season is upon us.

Here at Rowandale Soap Co., fall usually means preparing for the colder months, making lots and lots of goat milk soap, stocking up for the holiday season, and making sure everyone in the barn is ready for whatever winter decides to throw our way.

But this year, sweater weather brought us something we weren't quite expecting.

A tiny baby goat named Acorn. ā¤ļø

And this little guy has already turned our world upside down.

🌰 Mighty Things Grow From Little Acorns

This week, we welcomed a very special little boy to the Rowandale family.

His name is Acorn, and while he may be tiny, he's already teaching us some pretty big lessons about love, patience, determination, and hope.

Acorn was born with a spinal malformation believed to have been caused by spending too much time in one position while he was developing in his mama's womb. Sometimes, despite all the care and preparation in the world, Mother Nature throws us a curveball.

And Acorn is certainly our little curveball.

His body isn't quite working the way it should, and he has some challenges ahead of him. But here's the thing about life at Rowandale: We don't give up on our animals just because the road gets a little difficult.

Acorn is receiving massage therapy, chiropractic treatments, and acupuncture as we work to give his little body the best possible chance to improve.

Will these treatments help him overcome his challenges? We certainly hope so. There are no guarantees, and we're taking things one day at a time.

But one thing is certain.

Acorn has a whole farm cheering him on, and we are not giving up on this little boy!

šŸ¼ Bottles, Blankets, and Very Little Sleep

Now, let's talk about something nobody tells you when you fall in love with a baby goat who needs extra care.

SLEEP.

Or rather, the complete and utter lack of it!

You see, Acorn needs bottle feeding, which means this shepherd has officially added round-the-clock baby goat milk bar to her already rather lengthy job description.

There are bottles to prepare, feedings to manage, little goat bottoms to keep clean, treatments to arrange, and a whole lot of checking to make sure our little guy is comfortable.

And somewhere in between all of that, I vaguely remember that humans are supposed to sleep.

Apparently, Acorn did not get that memo.

There is something both exhausting and incredibly precious about caring for a baby animal who depends on you for absolutely everything.

Those sleepy little eyes looking up at you over a bottle, the tiny sounds he makes, and the way he settles down after a good feeding make every lost hour of sleep worth it.

Well, almost every hour. Ask me again after I've had another cup of coffee! ā˜•

🐐 Funny How Life on the Farm Works

If you've followed Rowandale for any length of time, you know that our farm is about so much more than making soap.

Yes, we milk our goats. Yes, we turn that wonderful milk into handcrafted soaps, lotions, and other goodies that we absolutely love sharing with you.

But at the heart of everything we do are the animals themselves.

They aren't simply milk producers.

They have names, personalities, friendships, favorite treats, silly habits, and an incredible ability to worm their way right into our hearts.

Some are mischievous. Some are demanding. Some are sweet and gentle. And some seem determined to test every ounce of patience their shepherd possesses!

But every one of them matters.

And that is why Acorn's arrival feels so incredibly fitting.

We spend our days making products designed to bring a little comfort, kindness, and care into people's lives. We believe in slowing down, appreciating the simple things, and finding joy in what nature gives us.

And now, right in the middle of our busy fall season, we've been given a tiny little goat who needs those very same things from us.

Comfort. Kindness. Care. Patience.

And a whole lot of love.

Sometimes the most important work happening on a soap farm has absolutely nothing to do with making soap.

Sometimes it's sitting in the barn, gently massaging a tiny goat's body, holding him close, and reminding him that he's not fighting his battles alone.

šŸ Sweater Weather and the Changing Seasons

As the temperatures drop, our days at Rowandale are filled with all the usual fall chores.

We're preparing the barn for cold weather, keeping an eye on everyone's comfort, making sure there's plenty of hay, and tending to the daily routines that keep a farm running.

Inside, the soapmaking continues. There are bars to make, wrap, and label, lotions to prepare, and holiday goodies to get ready.

And now there's Acorn.

Acorn and his bottles.

Acorn and his appointments.

Acorn and his massages.

Acorn and his very determined little spirit.

It's funny how quickly your priorities can shift when a tiny life needs you.

The soap can wait a few minutes. The laundry can wait a little longer. And that nice, cozy evening curled up under a blanket?

Well, that might have to wait until kidding season is officially over!

But I wouldn't trade this life for anything.

Because for every difficult moment, there are a hundred little reminders of why we do what we do.

A warm barn on a chilly morning.

The sweet smell of fresh hay.

The sound of happy goats munching away.

A freshly poured batch of goat milk soap.

And one tiny little Acorn, reminding us that even the smallest lives can make the biggest impact.

ā¤ļø Rooting for Acorn

We don't know exactly what Acorn's future will look like.

We're hopeful that with continued care, therapy, and a whole lot of determination, he'll make progress. We'll celebrate every little improvement, learn from the difficult days, and keep making decisions based on what's best for him and his quality of life.

There may be setbacks. There will certainly be more sleepless nights.

And I suspect there will be an impressive amount of coffee consumed along the way.

But that's farming.

It's messy. It's unpredictable. It's exhausting. It's beautiful.

And sometimes, it arrives in the form of a tiny baby goat named Acorn.

As we settle into sweater weather here at Rowandale, we're reminded that the greatest gifts on the farm aren't always the ones we planned for.

Sometimes they arrive unexpectedly, need a little extra help, and teach us more about love and perseverance than we ever imagined.

After all, mighty oaks grow from little acorns.

And we think our little Acorn has a mighty big story ahead of him.

Thank you for being part of our Rowandale family, for supporting our little soap business, and for caring about the animals who make this place so special.

We'll keep you updated on Acorn's journey. In the meantime, send a little love, a few prayers, and some good thoughts his way.

And if you happen to see this shepherd wandering around looking a little sleep-deprived, just hand her a cup of coffee and tell her she's doing fine! ā˜•šŸ

With love, goat milk, and very little sleep,

Your friends at Rowandale Soap Co. ā¤ļø
